Job Description

Search for Common Ground (Search) is seeking a consultant to provide temporary proposal-writing support to the Program Development Team within the Global Business Development Hub.
Team SummaryThe Program Development team creates new and repeat business for the organization in line with the Program Development Strategy. The Program Development team works closely with in-country Directors and Managers to ensure funding for programming that directly responds to the needs in Search’s conflict geographies. This function commences with scoping and pre-positioning for opportunities and completes with the signing of an award. This involves building program development strategies for conflict geographies, capturing opportunities, and leading Search’s engagement with institutional donors and partners. To develop successful bids the team works in close collaboration with other departments, including Finance, the Institutional Learning Team, Communications, and Human Resources. The Program Development team will build and strengthen the program development capacity within the organization.
ResponsibilitiesThe consultant’s main responsibilities will be supporting program development efforts led by the Global Business Development Hub, including supporting the design, development, and submission of a highly strategic proposal focused on peacebuilding/inclusive governance and covering about 10 countries. The consultant may be requested to support additional program development support for similar proposals.
The consultant will report to the Manager for Global Affairs and Partnerships and will work closely with other members of the Program Development team, as well as with the relevant regional and country teams, in a manner that consistently builds capacity and enables creativity and country program strategies to be funded.Key Responsibilities
  • Support the global program development team as they design the project proposal, providing technical support for the project design and being responsible for writing up key sections of the proposal
  • Support the design, development, and submission of a multi-country strategic proposal focused on peacebuilding and inclusive governance, ensuring compliance with donor rules and regulations, alignment with Search’s policies and processes and sub-regional strategic priorities.
  • Be a focal point, where delegated, on partner communications, working together with the team to clarify information, follow-through on requests etc.

The consultant may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.Key deliverables
  • Timely development of a strategic proposal, including writing up the project documents, as prioritized and decided upon with the Manager for Global Affairs and Partnerships
Terms
  • The consultant will report to the Manager, Global Affairs and Partnerships
  • The work objectives will be undertaken on the basis of 8 hours per day for 7 to 15 days from November 2023 to January 2024
  • The consultant will work remotely.
Qualifications
Education
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field

Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in working in business/program development for international non-governmental organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience writing complex, multi-country project proposals in the peacebuilding sector.
  • Specific experience with writing proposals for Dutch development cooperation is a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent understanding of the localization agenda and reflections around decolonizing aid.
  • Substantial experience designing peacebuilding projects which include the essentials of Monitoring amp; Evaluation.

Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate and work with a diverse team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The consultant is required to have the appropriate VAT or a relevant tax status in their country of residence in order to be contracted.
