Duties and Role:

As the NATO Alliance Operations and Missions (AOM) Systems engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the AOM CIS Platform as a Service environment, including the management of operating systems and specific hardware according to the design specification and documentation.

Under the direction of Branch Head, Section Head or a delegated authority, the incumbent will perform duties such as the following:

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert and Service Delivery Manager for the NCSC Platform as a Service environment in relation to the AOM delivered services;
  • Liaise with other Infrastructure Branch SMEs and SDMs to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of NCSC services;
  • Ensure NCSC Business Continuity and Disaster Recover Plans are up to date for their area of responsibility;
  • Essential involvement of the Change Management Implementation amp; Planning boards.
  • To assist and support ongoing projects that affect Platform and infrastructure as a whole
  • Ensure that the services and technologies are fully monitored using the NCSC Service and system monitoring tool (Solarwinds);
  • Ensure all scheduled checks of the NCSC enterprise virtualized environments, including health checks and auditing of system logs as needed to ensure the performance and availability of NCSC Services are meeting established service levels;
  • Ensure that data is protected in accordance with Business Continuity, Disaster Recover and any local instructions, including the management of the defined data backup activities;
  • Be responsible for the configuration and management of the Virtual Clusters, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN instances in the AOM environments;
  • Ensure the review, test and installation of appropriate firmware, security patches and upgrades for all VMware-based operating systems at various locations and enclaves;
  • Provide recommendations for the improvement of services in their area of responsibility;
  • Provide remediation plans for the testing and implementation of third party firmware and security patches on infrastructure servers;
  • Provide expert technical support to the platform and infrastructure services to resolve end user issues, including technical support for server OS-based issues;
  • Routinely review of the virtualized environments event logs and mitigate identified issues;
  • Conduct performance testing and tuning on hosts and operating systems;
  • Ensure the maintenance of the virtual infrastructure updates at appropriate levels;
  • Implement any recommendations provided from operating system vulnerability scans according to NCSC policies;
  • Develop and maintain a server security profile

Specific Working Conditions: Out of normal hours working will be required to support established maintenance activities. Exceptionally may be contacted during out-of-hours periods to support delivery of critical services.

Requirements

Skill, Knowledge amp; Experience:

  • The candidate must have a currently active NATO COSMIC TOP SECRET security clearance
  • A university degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in a technical subject with substantial Information Technology (IT) content and 2 years of specific experience. Exceptionally, the lack of a university degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate's particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to NCI Agency; that is, at least 6 years extensive and progressive expertise in the duties related to the function of the post;
  • Have a demonstrable expert level experience with 2016 and 2019 Windows Operating System environments;
  • Experience in administering Backup and Restore related technologies such as NetBackup, or equivalent;
  • Have experience in the area of troubleshooting, diagnosis and resolution of all aspects of network, production and software issues onsite or remotely;
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of forensics application servers (i.e. Access Data Enterprise and Fidelis Endpoint Security);
  • Have demonstrable experience in the area of systems and storage capacity management;
  • Good understanding of security issues surrounding server OS and applications;
  • Hold certifications from relevant Industry trainings in the area of: virtuali
