Job Description

The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is a grant-giving organisation based in Brussels.

EED’s goal is to provide flexible support to democracy activists, complementing other EU and Member State democracy support programmes. EED provides context-based, demand driven support based on a principle of fostering democracy and facilitating initiatives of local actors. EED believes in taking an unconventional approach to supporting democracy through investing in transformational ideas and the people behind them. Its geographic mandate covers the European neighbourhood and beyond.

EED seeks a professional communicator to join us as Communications Assistant within a small but vibrant communications unit. Main Tasks:

  • Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Assistant Coordinator will support the EED Communications team, which is responsible for communications, knowledge management and events organisation;
  • Manage EED social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn with responsibility for social media planning, post creation and management, and ongoing analytics;
  • Produce visibility products for EED work, including online news articles, short-stories and other online products. Instigate new material on a regular basis;
  • Prepare, write and produce regular e-newsletters for EED stakeholders;
  • Organise ongoing online and in-person events, with responsibility for development of event concepts and responsibility for overall logistics of the event. Ensure good publicity for relevant EED events via social media.
  • Create written content for EED communications tools, including website, annual report and other ad hoc reports;
  • Provide support for knowledge management function;
  • Assist in the management and updating of the EED website;
  • Provide support for cultivation of media contacts in Brussels, EU capitals and in partner countries.
  • Any other relevant tasks as may be required by the Communications Manager.
  • Requirements

    The Successful Candidate will meet the Following Criteria:

  • Degree in journalism, communications, European affairs, politics, sociology or equivalent;
  • Native or native-standard English, both spoken and written (C2-level required);
  • At least 2 years previous experience in relevant communications-related roles;
  • Excellent writing skills, with a proven ability to research and write articles for web and off-line publications;
  • Strong experience of managing social media accounts;
  • Some knowledge of graphic design (e.g. Canva and Adobe). Photo and film editing skills are an advantage;
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) for websites and with MailChimp;
  • Highly efficient, able to multi-task and work on their own initiative;
  • It is a distinct advantage if you speak a language relevant to EED’s work including Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Serbo-Croat or Albanian.

  • Requirements:

  • For practical reasons, citizenship of an EU Member State or residency of one of the EU/EEA countries or Switzerland is preferred.
  • Be entitled to full rights as a citizen;
  • Have completed any obligations imposed by laws concerning military service.
  • Be physically fit to perform duties.
