Job Description

1. Main functions of the post:

  • Coordinating research related activities related to EED’s work in Eurasia.
  • Coordinating specific Programme activities contributing to the overall programming in Eurasia.

  • 2. Duties and Responsibilities:

    The selected candidate will work under the guidance of the relevant Programme Manager and reports to the Director of Programmes and shall be responsible for (in addition to the above-mentioned):

  • Monitoring political developments in the Eurasia countries to inform EED strategies and programming.
  • Developing, planning, and organising programme-related events and donor coordination meetings, when relevant.
  • Coordinating and maintaining relationships with political analyst and researchers.
  • Contributing to the preparation of reports and other documentation for submission to the relevant donor.
  • Supporting the implementation of capacity building assistance.
  • Supporting the Programme Manager with input on drafting policy papers, texts for briefings and other documents needed for fundraising purposes.
  • Performing other tasks as required.

  • The Research amp; Activity Coordinator shall contribute, when required, to the following processes that are led by other EED staff members:

  • Writing and editing programme materials and guidelines.
  • Contributing to relevant policy papers and other relevant documents.
  • Requirements

    3. Key eligibility and selection criteria

    a. Conditions for eligibility:

    o preferably be a national or having permanent residence permit of one of the EU/EEA countries or United Kingdom;

    o be entitled to his/her full rights as a citizen;

    o have completed any obligations imposed on him/her by the laws concerning military service;

    o be physically fit to perform his/her duties.

    b. Essential selection criteria

    Level and type of formal education:

    o degree in Economics, International Affairs, Political or Social Science, Law, International Development or related discipline

    Professional experience:

    o at least two years of proven full-time professional experience in civil society-related projects and programmes;

    o demonstrated track record in grant-making and/or project management (including reporting);

    o demonstrated track record of drafting policy papers, briefings, other analytical documents,

    o experience in working with democracy-support donors in government and/or international organisations and/or in civil society or media support organisations and/or think tanks (or other relevant research organisations)..

    o experience in working with civil society in Eurasia.

    Functional competencies:

    o thorough working knowledge of Russian

    o knowledge of grant-making and project management;

    o substantive understanding of political issues and trends in Eastern Europe and Eurasia as well as EU policies towards the region;

    o field work experience that includes working in Eastern Europe and Eurasia would be an asset;

    o experience with media support would be an asset;

    o solid ICT skills;

    o ability to keep full confidentiality about all assigned tasks and related documentation as well as capacity to exercise confidentiality, discretion and tact when dealing with diverse groups of people;

    o high degree of communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills;

    o ability to develop strong working relationships internally and externally at all levels;

    o high personal and professional culture;

    o ability to work in a multicultural environment;

    o readiness for duty travel.
