Are you passionate about communications?? Are you a highly organised person with an eye for detail? Have you strong IT skills and some knowledge of website development and social media? Are you interested in working in the area of democracy-support?

The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) wants to hear from you!

We are looking for a motivated and proactive young professional to join our Communications Team in Brussels for a 12-month traineeship, starting on 15 March 2023.

This is an exciting opportunity that will suit a graduate with some communications and event experience gained either post or during studies or a graduate with strong organisational skills, who is keen to work within the democracy field.

Main Tasks:

  • Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Trainee will work with EED colleagues as a key member of the EED Communications team supporting the implementation of various activities during EED’s 2023 anniversary year.
  • Provide support to the organisation of multiple events in Brussels, including physical events, online and hybrid as well as providing support for the organisation of events by EED partners in other locations where EED works.
  • Provide support for logistics and administration for communications, particularly for events management, including regular updating of mailing lists.
  • Provide support for the development and implementation of social media campaigns.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and updating of EED’s website.
  • Responsible for managing EED’s audio-visual archive and work closely with EED partners to obtain additional material for this archive.
  • Provide other support as required to the EED Communications Team.
  • Requirements

  • Degree in European or international affairs, sociology, economics, communications or equivalent;
  • Native or native-standard English, both spoken and written;
  • Previous experience in communications-related roles, including in a volunteer capacity.
  • Familiarity with working with Joomla and Wordpress CMS and with MailChimp. Familiarity with other audiovisual packages also an advantage (e.g. Canva and Adobe).
  • Excellent writing skills with proven ability to produce clear easy to read reports;
  • Highly efficient and organised;
  • Self-motivated with ability to work on own initiative;
  • Some knowledge of democracy support issues and the political context of the EU neighbourhood would be an asset;
  • Fluency in another language relevant to EED’s work is a distinct advantage including Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, French, Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian, Albanian etc.

    EED’s goal is to provide flexible support to democracy activists, complementing other EU and member state democracy support programmes. EED provides context-based, demand driven support based on a principle of fostering democracy and facilitating initiatives of local actors. Its geographic mandate covers the European neighbourhood and beyond.

    This role is to support the implementation of a series of events and products during EED’s anniversary year in 2023.

    Terms and Salary

    Preferred contractual relations with the trainees is a Convention d'immersion professionnelle (a professional immersion agreement under Belgian Law). The expected level of monthly remuneration is around 1500 EUR net per month for the duration of one year.
